Laser Hair Removal Cost

Cost of Laser Hair Removal

Reviewed by Yael Halaas, MD

Laser hair removal cost reflects a number of variables, including the size of the area being treated, the thickness and density of the hair, the number of treatments needed, the type of laser used and your geographic location.

In general, the smaller the surface area to be treated, the lower the laser hair treatment cost. For example, lip laser hair removal can cost between $50 and $200 per treatment, while a full face and neck laser hair removal treatment can cost between $600 and $900. Laser hair removal on other body parts such as the bikini area, legs, arms, chest and back have their own price points.

Laser hair removal is rarely a one-hit wonder. Your hair follicles cycle through periods of growth and dormancy, and the laser only zaps hair follicles that are in a growth phase, so additional treatment sessions (usually four to six) are required to permanently reduce hair growth. Some people have found sweet deals on multiple facial hair removal sessions on deal-of-the-day websites like Groupon.com. Beware, however, that great deals do not always equate to great treatment. The skill and track record of the person performing your laser hair removal should be your top priorities.

As stated above, another major factor in laser hair removal cost is where you have the treatment. This includes both the geographic location and the actual facility. Doctors and clinics in large metropolitan areas will likely have a different price structure than their counterparts in outlying areas; it really comes down to a matter of supply and demand. Also, clinics where laser hair removal accounts for a large percentage of their business may have lower fees than clinics where the procedure is less popular. It may pay to shop around, but be sure to compare the credentials and experience of the providers, along with the laser hair removal cost, so that you receive the best care possible.

Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure and therefore is not covered by medical insurance. If the cost of laser hair removal is prohibitive, ask the provider about available financing.
