The All About Facial Rejuvenation Mother's Day Gift Guide
By Denise Mann
This Mother's Day, celebrate all the moms in your life by giving the gift of ageless beauty.
After all, what mother doesn't want to feel pretty and pampered on Mother's Day?
"Moms take care of everyone else and always put themselves last," says All About Facial Rejuvenation's Chief Medical Advisor Yael Halaas, MD, a facial plastic surgeon in New York City, and also a mother of three.
If this sounds like the mom or moms in your life, you have come to the right place. All About Facial Rejuvenation's Mother's Day Gift Guide has ideas to fit any budget that are guaranteed make even hard-to-please moms grin.
"Some of the items that made our list are just about being pampered and brightening their inner and outer glow," Halaas says. However, she advises, "It's not a good idea to gift someone a rejuvenation procedure unless you know for sure they have been thinking about it already."
AAFR Gift Idea No. 1 – Chemical Peel
A series of chemical peels can help restore a youthful glow to any mom's complexion — regardless of her age. Chemical peels reduce fine lines, especially under the eyes and around the mouth, and refresh and rejuvenate skin texture and color. Many medium-strength peels produce impressive results with little downtime, so mom can look refreshed and relaxed at a brunch or dinner in her honor.
Cost: Chemical peels cost anywhere from $100 to $900, based upon the strength of the peel. Available in packages.
AAFR Gift Idea No. 2 – Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment
IPL uses high-intensity pulses of light to diminish the appearance of age spots, fine lines and wrinkles as well as spider veins on the face. Like chemical peels, they require no downtime, so mom can reap the age-defying benefits of IPL without slowing down.
Cost: IPL costs between $300 and $600 per treatment. Available in packages.
AAFR Gift Idea No. 3 – Laser Skin Resurfacing
Give the gift of laser skin rejuvenation with a series of non-ablative laser treatments. Today's lasers help erase sun damage, dark spots, large pores and wrinkles, and many pack a one-two punch against aging by stimulating the production of collagen (a protein found in connective tissue that gives skin its structure). "It rejuvenates your skin from the inside out and from the outside in with little downtime," Halaas says.
Cost: About $400 to $1,000 per session, depending on the type of laser.
AAFR Gift Idea No. 4 – Injectables
Botox, Dysport and soft tissue fillers such as Restylane or Perlane injectables can reduce telltale signs of aging on the face. Give mom a gift certificate for a consultation with a local facial plastic surgeon if she is thinking about facial rejuvenation. Find a local doctor here.
Cost: $400 to $4,000, depending on the injectable and the area of injection. Consultation fees can often be applied to the chosen treatment. Act now, as many plastic surgeons are offering Mother's Day Specials.
AAFR Gift Idea No. 5 – Dark Chocolate
This satisfies a mom's sweet tooth without sabotaging her waistline or health. Dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants that can help reduce some of the visible signs of aging and protect your skin from the sun's damaging ultraviolet rays. Many studies show that an ounce of dark chocolate a day may help lower high blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels — both of which can be major risk factors for heart disease.
Cost: Anywhere from $5 to $170.
Other appearance-enhancing Mother's Day gift ideas include a package of blow-outs at her favorite salon, a relaxing facial or even a makeup application session. And make sure to take her for a night out on the town after she is all gussied up.
